Plum Creek Winery is one of the mainstays of the local industry. The vineyards were planted in 1984. Let’s just say there weren’t many other vines in the area at that time. Well, the benefit of a recent trip to stay at the Palisade Wine Valley Inn left me with a bottle of 2008 Palisade Rosé. Somehow I managed to not drink it at the inn and managed to pack it back to Denver. So this wine became my introduction to Plum Creek.

Mesa Park Vineyards 2006 Cabernet FrancCabernet Franc is one of those local wines that has a ton of personality. The 2006 Cabernet Franc from Mesa Park Vineyards might just have the most to date. This bottle of wine is that wild red head you used to date in college. It has spice. Red pepper flakes mixed with jalapenos with a side of oak to balance.

That’s just the smell.

Introducing Denver’s newest winery: Desert Moon Vineyards. What’s that you say? Desert Moon has been around since 2002. Yup, but now it is reinventing itself on the Front Range. After years of operating the vineyard, tasting room and winery, Desert Moon shifted the latter two parts of the operation to Englewood.
